How do you differentiate yourself from your competition?
Dunsmuir has no real competition. We
are unique. You will find a beautiful park and majestic mansion,
but you won't find the combination anywhere else in the Bay Area.
Our exquisite location nestled in the East Bay Hills is in the city of
Oakland, yet is an oasis away from the city sounds and the hustle and
bustle of daily life. A white gazebo, duck pond, historic
carriage house, and a contemporary garden pavilion enhance the 50 acre
setting. We are in proximity to the freeway, airport, downtown
and accessible by public transportation.
|
How long have you been in business?
In 1971, Dunsmuir House and Gardens, Inc. was
established as a private non-profit corporation dedicated to the
preservation, restoration and development of Dunsmuir Hellman Estate as
a historic attraction. We signed a contract with the City of
Oakland to operate the historic estate. In 2008 the name of the
organization was changed to Dunsmuir Hellman Historic Estate to include
the legacy of the Hellman family.

What are you justifiably proud of – that Dunsmuir House does really well?
We have a long tradition of 38 years of
offering a quality experience at Dunsmuir Hellman Historic
Estate. Our dedicated Board, staff and volunteers spend 5,000+
hours decorating the 37-room Neoclassical Revival mansion for the
annual holiday show. The entire estate is transformed into a
festive gathering place for the December Holidays. Take a step
back to simpler times and enjoy children/adult tea, listen to carolers
and musical entertainment. The Hopping Bunny comes to life during
our Spring Egg Hunt when we offer another great family picnic day on
the Estate. For the 35th year we will host the Oakland Scottish
Highland Games that includes Piping and Dance competitions vendors,
crafters, games, food and some of the best Celtic musical acts in the
country.
